Today, I had the distinct displeasure of speaking with someone in Hostgator Tech Support. Read and marvel at this guy's repeated asking of questions which I already answered, his general cluelessness about something that he should know about if he's going to support it, and how he ignores my request to talk to someone who knows what they're talking about... I don't have a palm big enough for my face.

Hello, welcome to HostGator Live Chat.
Richard Felix:
hello
Drake Mallard:
How may I assist you today?
Richard Felix:
our rails app at duckwatcherz.com won't start, and we can't figure out why
Drake Mallard:
What is the url to the error?
Richard Felix:
http://duckwatcherz.com
Drake Mallard:
HAve you created all of the symlinks for it>?
Richard Felix:
yes. it has worked fine for months
Richard Felix:
and it went down last night.
Richard Felix:
we haven't made any changes
Drake Mallard:
Can you turn on error reporting for it?
Richard Felix:
logging is always on
Richard Felix:
it's a rails app
Richard Felix:
you can't turn logging off
Richard Felix:
the log doesn't have anything in it since last night though
Drake Mallard:
Please wait while I check. Thank you for your patience.
**9 minutes later**
Drake Mallard:
Has anything changed on your account?
Richard Felix:
no. we haven't made any changes to either the source code or the account
Drake Mallard:
What is the name of the file for the app?
Richard Felix:
may i please speak to someone who knows something about rails apps? the questions that you're asking don't make any sense if you know how rails apps work. what file are you talking about?
Drake Mallard:
What file contains the source code for your app.
Richard Felix:
the source code for a rails app is spread out among a ton of files. your question doesn't make any sense. you start a rails app by pointing a mongrel at your app directory and running dispatch.fcgi, but the app code is not in dispatch.fcgi. it's in /app, /public, /vendor and all of the other folders. something is wrong with our mongrel, i think, but there isn't an error in the log.
Drake Mallard:
Thank you.
Drake Mallard:
I am still working on this for you.
Richard Felix:
thanks
Drake Mallard:
Do you have any other ruby apps?
Richard Felix:
yes.
Richard Felix:
they are all fine
Drake Mallard:
So just this one is not working?
Richard Felix:
yes, just this one is broken
Drake Mallard:
Thank you.
Drake Mallard:
I am not seeing anything wrong with your application.
Drake Mallard:
I am creating a ticket so we can see if we need to restart a service for you to get this fixed.
